DESCRIPTION:
After your pick up at the pier and a short drive along the country side, you will get into TURU BA RI Tropical Park, the biggest and most complete tropical park in America, a fresh destination with unspoiled natural environment and a thoughtful commitment to sustainable tourism. In 595 acres you will discover the best butterflies, exclusive botanical collections, amazing forest trails and Costa Rica’s cultural history and much more.
The TURU BA RI Tropical Park (“Bright Moon River" in the Huetar dialect) is an eco-adventure oriented theme park that started operation last April 5th, 2003. It has a total extension of 595 acres in beautiful scenery, surrounded on the Northeast by the Rio Grande de Tarcoles, to the Southwest by the Turrubares hillsides and the Carara National Park and to the West by the Nicoya Gulf, which you can see from the highest elevation areas. The distance form Puntarenas is only one hour bus ride and this tour is one of our best recommendations for the entire family.
The natural surroundings of the TURUBARI Tropical park is the ideal place for visitors who are looking to learn more about Costa Rica's natural history, discovering our ancestor's life style, having an adventure experience or simply enjoy the beautiful landscape. The park's entrance is located at the highest point, offering a spectacular view of the property and its surrounding areas.
Way back in the year 1997, about 15 years in the past, the property was dedicated to the cattle raising field and with the abundant production of mangoes. Six years later the property was transformed into a park with an immense tropical garden with botanical collections, trails and a large quantity of attractions for tourist to enjoy which has helped preserved our planet and brought social benefits to few of the human resources. The main attractions to visit are: The aerial tram, the Butterfly Garden, Palm collection, Countryside farm, Herbarium, Cactus collection, The Indian trail and Bromeliads garden.
The tour includes a naturalist tour guide who will explain all the main secrets of the rain forest and a delicious buffet lunch.
Operational Notes
- Round trip transport between the ship and attractions.
- The meeting point is at the entrance of the pier for cruise ships arriving to puntarenas and gangway for cruise ships arriving into Puerto Caldera.
- Our guides will be at pier with a sign and the name of the tour on it.
- All buses have A/C
- This tour is operated in small buses only.
- This tour has been designated an environmentally sensitive tour.
- All tour guides are bi-lingual English – Spanish. For other languages please make the request in advance.
- During this tour, in some places there is no shade, pax should bring sunscream, a hat, sunglases, etc.
- During the rainy season, Sep- Nov, pax should expect some rain. Pax should bring a raincoat.
- Greenway Tours suggests pax to bring mosquito spray for beach and rain forest tours.
- Greenway Tours buses are equipped with First-Aid Kit in case of accidents.
- Pax should wear comfortable shoes.
- Pax should be advised to bring a backpack to store cameras, film, sunscream and any other belongings for easy travel.
- This tour is designed for active people that enjoy exercise and the great outdoors.
- For people with limited walking mobility, we offer small electrical cars for explore the park.

- Departure Time is 8:00 AM Ship Time
- 75 minutes bus ride to Turubari.
- 20 minutes instructions and restrooms.
- 120 minutes tour around the property and main attractions.
- 60 minutes for enjoy lunch and visit the souvenirs store.
- 75 minutes bus ride back to the pier.
